Homemade Personal Filofax Pocket Insert

Greetings from Totoro!

My son is a trumpet player and this makes me smile every time I open my Filofax!

I've had my personal black Finsbury for about a month. I ordered it with a compact raspberry.  The order process was sort of messed up, but I won't go into that right now.  This is the perfect size and I can carry it in my tote bag along with the compact Finsbury I use as a wallet.

The dividers are personalized and I even printed my own note paper instead of purchasing more.  There are a few flyleafs throughout that I made from transparencies.

I don't decorate my pages heavily. I found it to be a little distracting so I use the thin solid-colored washi tape for color-coding as well as colored pens. My A5 FC (Franklin Covey) and my pocket chameleon are "stickered" up and all cute-ified, but my personal size is easier to use if I keep it simple.

I wanted to share a simple project that I did. I made my own plastic pocket insert for my personal Filofax.  It came with one, and it's very nice quality, but I wanted something similar to the Martha Stewart Avery pockets that have the flaps so the contents don't slip out.  The Martha Stewart pockets only come in the A5 size which I use in my FC, but not in pocket size.

In the stash of office supplies I've accumulated through the years I found 4"x6" photo pages for 3-ring binders.  One of these will only make one pocket, but it's pretty inexpensive.

I used to do a lot of crafting in the past, but not so much lately. I still have a lot of my supplies, though. My favorite tool is the guillotine paper cutter I got from Stampin' Up and the Fiskars paper trimmer. These have been so useful in customizing my Filofaxes.

This isn't a tutorial, but I'm sure if you have crafting skills you can figure it out. I basically cut out one pocket and about an inch and a half of the plastic above the opening. Then I trimmed one layer of that extra portion and folded down the remainder and ran my Martha Stewart folding bone (is that what it's called?) over it a few times. I attached a piece of washi tape to hold keep the flap down, but it doesn't need it.  The best way to punch the holes is to place sticky notes along the edge so the plastic has some "body" because it's pretty thin and the holes won't look very clean otherwise.

This is so inexpensive and easy to do. I hope you like the idea and try it yourself. Just leave a comment if you have any questions!

The back of the pocket next to an old DayRunner zip pocket I've had for years. Does anyone know if Recollections makes an orange pen?
